Sun and Drawings....

Finally we got a few days of sun here in Portland, Oregon!
This made me so happy I was finally able to do some more jewelry...I have been slacking during the greys...

I just love the wood and concrete together, such a perfect juxtaposition...

"The city, however, does not tell its past, but contains it like the lines of a hand" - Italo Calvino.

Hand drawings too always speak between the lines.  When you draw an architectural or engineering drawing by hand, not only does it give you the technical information of the building, but transfers your feelings, your memories on to that piece of paper as well....

I might begin another jewelry collection with drawing transfers...if it is a technical drawing, even then the way the piece is crafted, a mood, a feeling, even a memory can get embedded into that piece...

#58: The sparrow is sorry for the peacock at the burden of its tail.

The sparrow is very plain compared to the beautiful peacock and it's tail, but still she does not envy him...for he cannot join her in flight.

Perhaps we need them together, the sparrow with its simplicity and the peacock with its gorgeous tail, to see the beauty, the individual purpose of both.

The cold, the industrial concrete is paired here with the elegant, shiny bead necklace.
The two complementing each other.

#230: Let him only see the thorns who has eyes to see the rose.

...............May one always find the beauty, their very own happiness in life............

This is another piece in the collection "Stray Birds." The pendant is hand poured cement, set on silver, touched with a silver bead and held on a stainless steel wire.

#17: These little thoughts are the rustle of leaves; they have their whisper of joy in my mind.

The above verse from the poem "Stray Birds" reminded me of when I was young, when we would be playing outside, we would gather tiny flowers, leaves, and anything that would catch our eye. Then, we would find pieces of broken glass bottles on the streets. We would dig a hole in the ground, place our findings there, underneath the glass piece, and cover it back up with dirt. Then, would clear away a little dirt on top, to find a small window into our own tiny treasure. These little secrets would always be just ours, our happiness at that moment, our creations.

And so, now these little thoughts evolved here into this jewelry piece.  From me to you, let them now be your very own happiness.
Quoting Ayn Rand: "Every form of happiness is private. Our greatest moments are personal, self- motivated, not to be touched."
They are our secrets :)

These earrings hold a note with part of the above verse written on them, which is held into place with a selected bead.  The note can be taken out and replaced with your own thought, your own little secret ;)

#48: The stars are not afraid to appear like fireflies.

The above verse was my idea/inspiration for this necklace, from the poem "Stray Birds" by Rabindranath Tagore.
....For it is only something beautiful and pure, is not scared to be mistaken for something else....

"STRAY BIRDS" COLLECTION

My first inspiration is Rabindranath Tagore, 1861-1941, he was a Bengali poet, novelist, musician, painter and playwright.  One of the poems by Tagore, called "Stray Birds," is a combination of separate verses in one poem.  Some of my favorite verses will each be a jewelry piece.
